New member, been riding dirtbikes and a few small road bikes (250 Ninja a few times), though I'm still fairly new to the whole road deal. Anyways, the bike is a 1985 Yamaha XJ 750 Maxim (stated on the title, haven't found any other '85 750 Maxims though), the previous owner was a friend who was just looking to offload it so I picked it up today for $200. Has straight bars, chrome is in good to very good condition, white gauges (unsure if stock or not), and overall is a very sexy bike. The tank could use a new paint job but other than that it is in very good cosmetic shape, brought it to the shop to have them check the bike over mechanically (I'm a car guy, bikes not so much). Any and all help, comments, advice, and suggestions are welcome, I know very little about the bike but expect to learn a ton on this forum.

P.S. Pictures are from a camera phone, I'll get better ones up once I find a digital camera.

The tank just looks like the victim of a poor prep job; that can be remedied with little if any hassle. How did the mechanical checkup go? If its a runner, you got a treasure there!

Still awaiting the verdict on the checkup. As for the paint, the bike was actually knocked over and gas spilled out of the cap (wasn't on all the way) and it did a number on the paint. I have a friend who does custom paintjobs, but for right now I'll just strip it down, prime it, and paint it flat black. I'll update this thread when I get updated myself.
