before i checked to see if they would fit i bought a set of xj750 forks, due to my xj650 forks being pitted, due to the brake calipers being different i am changing out the tubes. my question is i notice in a parts book that the seals have a different part #, does anyone know if the 650 seals work on a 750 tube or do i need to order xj750 seals and will they fit the xj650 fork bottoms? any help will be appreciated thanks grm

The seals, etc. are associated with the LOWER TUBES, not with the chrome inner tube.

I've never heard of anyone trying to do this swap (750 inner tubes into 650 lower tubes). I'm not sure whether it's going to work correctly. A much better route would be to swap the entire 750 forks (assuming they're off a 750 maxim) onto the 650 trees, along with the 750 brake system.....everything will bolt right up with a little bit of effort, and you'll have a dual disc brake system as a bonus. You'll have to use ALL of the 750 brake parts (caliers, hoses, master cylinder, etc.). Retain the 650 upper and lower steering brackets.

The 750 upper triple clamp must be used with the 750 forks. The clamp has an internal air passage with a single air valve, whereas the 650 forks have an air valve on the top of each fork leg.

these must be a different fork setup, they do not have any air passages as stated. they have air valves just like my 83 xj650 the only diff is the 650 top is held by a c clip and the 750 screws in, i bought off of ebay and the seller said they are 83 xj750 forks. so far i have taken both apart and the inner tube is the same length and hook up the same way by a allen screw, but i am not sure about the diameter. as for the reason changing out as stated before the lower tubes have a different setup for the brake caliper and din't want have to change out the brake system.

The upper tubes are the same OD.

Man, if I were you, I'd definetly be adding the dual brake system! I mean, you can just slap that entire set of forks onto your bike eazy-peazy, calipers and all, and the '83 750 Maxims even use the same distribution block on the lower tree as the 650's do, so all you'd have to "change" on the brake system is the master cylinder (use the one from the 750) and it will swap onto your 650 handlebars in about 30 seconds!

Oh, and bolt the 650 fender onto the 750 lower tubes, again, it will swap right over.......

I believe my 83 xj750MK has the seperate air valves on top of each tube as well.

One more thing to add to your dual-caliper shopping list would be a second rotor. Makes a BIG difference...
