i have blown the 550 to pieces and have started a 600 build, through research i have found that the xj600 from around 84 are the bomb when i comes to buildable horsepower without the shaft drive, cant stand um. I am thinking of going with je pistons but at 800 bucks a set, it gets a little spendy, i can have 13 to 1 pistons made through weisco but i have to make 6 sets, at roughly 500 a set. if you want to get in on these let me know, anyways, springs are ridiculous at 2400 a set but the cams arent bad, webcams make a cam for the 550/600 and the 650 on up i think. around 400 bucks but worth the money. the 550 ran 148 before it untimely dis-assembled. kinda wish i wasnt on it when it went. the record is now 151 for the 650 class so hopin i get it 2009. you know, oddly enough, with the 12 to 1 compression it was dropping a valve that destroyed it, i thought that the crank/pistons/rods would have let go first. oh well.

13:1?!?! 8O What does 110/112 cost in your area? 'Round here, goes for near $8.50. 100 Street legal goes $7.50. We use the 112 in the Buick, which is a 13:1 engine also. Although we get a bit more HP outta the Buick, yours has got to be one fun ride!!!

and the je pistons are 14 to 1, i ran 12 to 1 in the 550 on 91 octane, just polished the dome and valves for hot spots and cleaned up the piston, i should be able to run 93

There is no way that the Buick could do that. I don't care how much timing you throw at it. Only possible way would be for us to use some sort of methanol injection. But, if we were to do that, we'd probably just build us an alcohol motor anyway.

Still, as it is, we get 732 hp @the flywheel. Moves that 3800# car pretty well.
