crap picture, great looking bike, i don't think they had that model in the U.S.A. me thinks they had a size ban on imports at that time.

Looks like one of these; check the VIN number and see if it has the "1FX" code in it..........

    MODEL NAME: XJ900N
    STREET NAME: 1985 XJ900
    MODEL ID CODE: 1FX
    FRAME ID: 1FX
    SERIAL NUMBER STARTS AT: 000101
    NOTE: 891cc engine, no fairing.

North America only got the 1983 XJ900RK Seca model, and that was it for XJ900's over here. The rest of the world got a variety of XJ900 models up until 1994 or so.......

A friend has a 48G which looks exactly the same as this, same colour scheme with round headlight and no fairing. I can't find out much about the 48G.

Hey Kiwi, my info shows a 48G to be:

    COUNTRY: OTHER

    MODEL NAME: XJ900
    STREET NAME: 1984 XJ900
    MODEL ID CODE: 48G
    FRAME ID: 31A
    SERIAL NUMBER STARTS AT: 003101
NOTE: Switzerland. 853cc engine, frame-mounted fairing.

And it has a ROUND headlight and no fairing? Can you confirm his full VIN & serial number for me (via PM if you don't want to post it on the board).

a few issues found whilst cleaning bike!!!!!
1)i ahve taken the right side rear footpeg holder off to polish it,bumped the muffler & noticed it was loose touched it & i pulled it off& went to put it back on & what looks like a silcone seal came out of the end that goes onto the collector box,its colour is a terra cotta colour???? question is how important is it???? :?
2)i need to repair a big chip on the swingarm rubbed it back with 600grit w7dry the 1200w/dry,then etched-primed it - question is what paint colour code would it be??????????????? :?: :?:
3} why is a metric finr thread bolt have a imperial size nut????
the socket head cap screws holding the rear footpegs on are a 9/16 nut with a m12x1.5pitch thread???? 8O  :?: :?
    cheers albear

    1. I would definitely replace the muffler-to-collector gasket.

    2. If it's black I just use "universal black" automotive touch-up paint.

    3. They're not imperial-size nuts, they're metric but with the wrong size heads, they have 14mm heads. If they're the flanged head bolts like they use on the 550s, the head is almost tapered. I always use 6-point tools on those.

I con't figure this one out either it had to be some sort of different Japanese standard. A LOT of the fasteners have the wrong size head for the threads, usually one size down (like the exhaust clamp bolts.) Apparently Yamaha themselves don't fully have a handle on it, some of the replacement hardware I've got from them has "big (normal size) heads."

In Europe it was the Diversion and here it was the Seca 900. We first had it as the Seca with a 750 engine in 1984. It was the 900 frame with the 750 engine.
There was no ban on engine sizes but an import tariff on anything above 700cc. That is where the 700cc bikes came from. An 84 to 86 750cc bike usually was shipped to Canada where there was no tariff.

question, should i lubricate the splined shaft with something??
after market 4 into one exhaust no std gasket or it,so i went to the local auto shop & got some exhaust cement. Now to put it all back together.
