Ok, We tore the engine apart to get in there and replace 2nd gear. Replaced everything that needed to be. Put it back together got it in the bike and it started right up! Woohoo! Now the bad news. It will only go into 1st gear and nuetral. WTF! Any insight from the pro's on here would be very welcomed. Do I have to split the cases to fix what is thought to be wrong? If I do, do I have to get a new gasket kit or will the original one suffice? PLEASE HELP! I'M GOING NUTS OVER HERE! 8O :?:

It's rarely something that doesn't require going back in to straighten out.

I know you don't want to hear that. But, you're probably going to have to see where the Drum and Forks are. Something might be bent. The Drum might be 180-out.

I feel bad for you guys.
    Back-tracking is never any fun.

So do I need another gasket kit or is the one I just put on going to be ok?

depends on how you put it on i guess. If you glued to one side, and greased the other, is should still be usable if you crack it open carefully

Although the practice is NOT recommended; I have reused Gaskets before.
There's no problem using the Bottom Gasket, again, if it isn't torn. I'd dress the Gasket with a Gasket Sealant, like ... "Indian Head" and not worry too much about the Bottom End.

The Head Gasket is going to need some "Insurance". This comes in a Spray Can from Permatex. Shoot the Head Gasket with Permatex - High-Tack - Spray-a-Gasket.
Shoot BOTH sides. A nice coating of Sealant.

When I used to have to stop Oil Leaks on British Bikes ... I'd spray some of the stuff into a Tuna Can and apply the product directly to the cleaned mating surfaces with a nice little artists Paint Brush.

Again, if the Gasket hasnt been damaged in any way. Otherwise, pop for a new Gasket.

I forgot to mention that on the center stand it shifts through the gears ok, but on the ground riding it is when it will only do 1st and nuetral. Could the clutch have anything to do with this condition?
