Hey guys (and gals?), just stopping in to check things out and see some pictures. I bought a 1981 Maxim 650 about a year and a half ago and started chopping it up, I have a progression of pics from near beginning to where it is now. I don't have any pictures of it stock, but you guys already know what they look like stock, soooooo..........

First thing I did was ditch the bulky seat and get it down a few inches.[IMG] Obviously there were some mounting problems with the side covers, hence the tape. I did manage a first place win in a local bike show in the rat category with the bike in this iteration. I also ditched the bulky instrument cluster and decided all I would need for a cruiser is a speedo, so I got my hands on a global top gps HUD which I fabbed a bracket to project onto the tank.

The taillight was a replica '59 Caddy unit I pilfered off my '52 Chevy until I could get the permanent fixture on over the winter.

Over this past winter I decided to back half the frame and make it a true rigid, since I was basically riding it without a rear suspension to speak of anyway. And by the way, don't ride your XJ with a bottomed out rear suspension. I did it only temporarily, yet it was still enough abuse in such a short period of time that it began to fracture the fragile rear portion of the frame. I found stress fractures in several spots when I started surgery after riding the bike like that for only 3-4 months.

Here's a better shot of the design I decided to go with for the rear tail light and plate bracket. Luckily for me, I work in the welding/fabrication field, so I have tons of great tools at my disposal for creating one off things like this.

I'm liking the look of a fenderless front end. The rear is bobbed to the point of being unridable in the rain anyway, so why bother with a front, right?

I just finished up the exhaust work yesterday, so I'll have to snap a few pics of that stuff tomorrow and post them up. Hope you all enjoyed the pics!

Putting this one up to show the gussets i made for the hardtail section. You can actually see the gussets for both sides in this pic if you look closely...

And a close up of the spade tail light / L-plate bracket..

And a better look at the jockey shift.
