82 XJ750 Maxim Handlebars

I have a 750 maxim and want to change the stock handlebars. I am new to working on. Is this something I would need conversion or will I just need risers for the new bars? Also want to change grips.. any suggestions?

If you have the two-piece handlebars, you will need a pair of risers. Depending on what kind of bars your going to use, you may need longer risers so the bars don't hit the tank when you turn them. The risers simply bolt thru the upper tree on the forks.
Using higher handlebars, you'll also need to get longer cables for the throttle and choke and a longer front brake line. Also the wiring will need to be added to so they reach. Anything is possible.

Here's what I did, the risers are from an xs 400, they were too long so I made spacers.

 

Looks good... what was the height on your risers you added?

 

The spacers are 1 inch, basically just so the riser would tighten down on the top tree, I had to drill the hole on the tree to get them to slide through, too.

 

Now that's using the ol' noodle. Sometimes the simplest things will do the trick. Throw a coat of paint on them and nobody will know the difference.
