    i was throwing out a old Dell flat screen monitor with a external power supply today and noticed the power supply output was 14 vdc @ 3a
    now i have another battery charger
    look before you toss

    The only word of warning i'd give to this is:

    Normal battery chargers are designed to LIMIT the amount of current they can charge at (5 Amps for example is the MOST it will put out).

    Adapters like Pol has are rated for a certain amperage MAX that it can deliver. If you've got an extremely dead battery, that adapter may try to put out more than 3A and the only way you'll know is by the flaming pile of plastic on the ground where the brick used to be :)

    actually their switching power supplies, voltage regulated with some pretty sophisticated protection circuits in them
    the most that would happen if they fail is a internal fuse would pop or a transistor fail
    same kind of ps as in your pc and those don't don't usually burst into flames :)
