Plug chops...First time, how do they look?

Wanted to get some seasoned opinions on how my plugs look.

To me #1 looks a bit lean and the rest look ok...thoughts?

 

If #1 is lean, I'm assuming at this point I can start playing with the mixture screw. Which direction should I be turning (very, very slight adjustments, I'm sure )

 

I'd start off with a new set of plugs.

 

Really? They have under 100 miles on them. What would be the purpose for new ones? Are they that bad??

 

So all that rust is just your head? That's what makes them look old to me.

I'm certainly no pro, but I tried to study this some, and I agree with your diagnosis from what I know.

 

What rust? If the stuff on the threads is what is what you are talking about, that is spark plug thread compound (anti seize).

 

Between the spark plug housing and threads there is a silver line; it looks kind of like rust. Probably also that anti-seize stuff.

 

Yeah, that's just the compound.

 

Run it.
They look fine.
Keep an eye on the No-1 Plug.

The "Tweak" needed to match 2, 3, & 4 is probably about the width of a Compact Disc.

Those look just like mine.
I run it, ... "On the lean side"
BUT ---> With coloration!

If you are getting Out-of-the-hole ... with CRISP acceleration and NO Backfire of Hesitation, ... you can run like that.

Make a TOOL.
Buy a Pocket-clip Miniature Screwdriver at SEARS.
Hacksaw the Plastic Handle off a quarter-inch above the Metal Shank.
Cut the Metal part off 1.75 Inches from the Bottom of the Handle.

Chuck Metal Shaft in Electric Drill.
Spin Handle
Sand Top while spinning. Round-off.
Grind and File a Tool-end to be a PRECISION Fit into a Mixture Screw.
Hacksaw a shallow channel on length of handle horizontal to tip.
Fill channel with White Nail Polish as a Visual Reference Mark.

Drill small hole through handle.
Add a small loop of leather shoelace.
Keep on Key Chain.

If you are going to takek the Bike on a Long Haul at sustained Highway speed, ... TWEAK.

Add a few Degrees of Richness.
Not very much!
6 ~ 10 Degrees should do it.

Or...if you live way out in the boonies like me, and a trip to Sears is a major excursion you could do this.....peen and file a small bolt to the perfect fit, file some notches in a large washer and double nut it to the bolt.

Not a bad idea to have a 'finger' string on it cause if it drops down between #3 & #4 it's a hell of a job getting it back out.......don't ask!! :lol:
