So I'm pretty sure I diagnosed a non start issue to the neutral switch. I changed what I thought was the switch with the one from my 82. I'm thinking that what I actually changed may have been an oil level sensor. Is it possibly tucked away in a hard to see spot?

What I changed has two bolts holding it in the bottom of the crank case below the pistons and was cylinder shaped.

    Thanks
    Bob

yep you changed the oil sensor. the neutral switch is just off the edge of the frame rail tucked way up in right near your shifter. neutral switch should only cause a non start issue if your starting with the bike on the side stand. if you have your side stand up and clutch lever pulled (and both of those switches work) the bike should still start even if the neutral switch doesn't work.
