    ..and I'm an alcoh----gear head.

Friend of mine at work had a 1985 Yamaha XJ700X sitting in his garage since I met him 3 years ago. He said when he last parked it all of the oil leaked out of it and he hasn't touch it since (last registered in '09). After about 2 years of me nagging him as to when I can have his bike, he finally asked when I was going to pick it up. :D I felt bad, so I brought a 12 pack over (then drank one with him). hehe. Loaded it up in the truck and took 'er home.

Has about 36k on the ol' ticker. Missing mirror, battery, and side panel. Throttle cable elbow is broken. Needs tires. It's a lil rough around the edges and needs some TLC. Should be fun. I'll start a thread in the tech section on the progress i'm making.

    Nice deal.

Those front brake lines, are they stainless? If so, that's a good sign.

Kilt - No...:( That is the anti-kink/bulge/protector gitzy for the rubber line. Line is dated 2/85.

Kirk - Yes it is an X.

    Polock - That's my lil man. :)

    Thanks for the comments everyone!

    Welcome aboard Jason.

Great to see another X get revived as it looks like a great bike to fix up. I'm on my second X and, like most of us here, feel that this is probably the best bike forum on the net. Lots of helpful information and support from the members.

I have to say that I've never seen that style engine guard on an X before. Usually it's the D shaped chromed two or three point mount style. The ones you have are pretty rare, and I'm wondering if they are specific to the X, or from an earlier model that someone adapted them to fit?

    Nice score indeed. :D

36k on it you say. The first valve check/adjustment on these water heads was due at 26,600 I believe. I'll bet it hasn't been done since it involves removing the cams if the adjustment is required. Might want to check into it for the continued health of the mill.

Cool. At least you're set for another 26,600! :) And who knows, maybe they'll all be in spec still. A buddy just had his Gixxer 1000 in for it's 30k service and the valves were all still in spec. One was right on the edge but in spec is in spec. Not bad. Still all the original pads/shims.

Yikes, those are then 23 years past their expiry date. I guess my question should have been:

Those brake lines, you going to replace them with stainless braids?

    :D
