While cleaning my carbs today I bumped (very gently by the way) one of the posts that supports the float. It broke off. Can I glue it back with something or should I just buy another carb somewhere? There is a parts carb on ebay from a 750 Seca, will that work for a 650 Maxim?
    Thanks,
    Glen

What year Seca and what year Maxim? I can tell you that the carbs from the 81's will swap, but that is the extent of my knowledge. I would suggest you look for someone to TIG weld the post back in place, but they might not want to do it given it has been exposed to fuel. If they boil it out, they might be a little more inclined to give it a whirl. I'd suggest JB Weld but I think you would run into adhesion issues because of fuel in the pores of the metal. Write back soon, I hope you can get the carbs from someone. Speaking of which, would anyone out there have a set of scrap carbs?

Sorry I should have made that clear. Carb parts for sale 1981 Seca 750, my bike is a 1980 Maxim 650.

The information I have (a Haynes manual) shows the same carb body used from 80 to 84 on 650's and 750's is the same (Hitachi HSC 32). Just transfer a few jets and your golden. I'd be interested in your dead carbs as a few folks here on the forum are needing little parts for each of their's. Perhaps you could farm out the parts yourself to each of the parties in need. Good luck Glen.

The former owner of my '83 XJ750RK broke one of the posts, and put it back in place with JB Weld. When I bought it and cleaned out the carbs, I broke it off again taking pin from the float off. I cleaned it up really well and again put JB Weld back on it. It was very sturdy as it had plenty to attach to. I figure if it had been like that for so many years, might as well keep it that way.

Thanks for the tips! I used the JB Weld and it seems to have worked. Carbs are now nice and clean and put back together. Bike is running better than it has for a couple years.
    Thanks again.
