I just picked up this bike the other day and had the intentions of restoring it but I have too many projects already. Bike has a title but it is in other peoples names. I know I can register it in Vermont and do a transfer but I also know that a lot of people on here can benefit from the parts. I have been in that position with my 81 xj550 and was helped out on here. Bike is a 1985 xj700 and someone thought this tank and seat combination looked good. They were horribly wrong. Let me know what parts you need and I will send you a pic and a fair price. Whatever does not sell on here I will put on Ebay.

The starter is shot and the seller told me that the bike only bump starts. I will be testing that theory out this weekend.

Yeah. That's the one. Some guy bought it and didn't know how to fix it himself. So he sold it to me a few weeks after he bought it. Shops wanted to charge him $200 for a new starter. Found out last night that it was the usual culprit. The starter solenoid.

Well. Just rebuilt the starter and the bike purrs. Despite the death tank it is a great running bike. Going to take it for a quick ride in a little bit. All parts still for sale. Except the tank and the seat. Recycling place has dibs on them

Holy Hell! What is that thing? I can't even imagine what is going on there. Looks like a propane cylinder held on with electric tape! That is a "Previous Owner Masterpiece" candidate if ever there was one! The sissy bar looks like it would cut the passenger in half! I LOVE IT!

I took it out yesterday around my yard. I am 6'1 193 and I felt like my ribs would snap if I hit the slightest bump. Anyone smaller probably have a much harder time. Judging by the heated grips and the dirt bike tires I would say that the PO used this off roading in the winter. Either way. This bike is in no way safe to ride in its current condition. Teardown will commence this week into the weekend.

No takers on parts so the teardown will start tomorrow. Parts will be available on Ebay.

I know that part of why there are no takers..... Your inbox is full and I can't send a private message to you---

So, you can start a conversation with me --- my inbox isn't full :)

I'd like to ask about the side covers, the gauges, and possibly headlight assembly and turn signals

Yeah, things are pretty rough! Lol. BUT I could use a lot of bits and pieces, and can probably repair the cover set----

Depends on prices--- let me know what you're asking
