Is the turn signal control on the Maxim supposed to be able to be pushed in to manually cancel the turn signal?
All the bikes I have ever owned worked this way but the Maxim signal switch is sitting close to the switch body and has no room for pressing in, only for sliding left and right. I figured I would ask before taking it apart to see if something was wrong internally. Trying to push the switch back the other way to manually cancel often ends up turning the opposite signal on so it does not seem to be the appropriate way to manually cancel.

I have a 750 max and I believe I push the switch down to cancel. I am not 100% sure, don't really think about when I do it, but that is what comes to mind. Will check when I get home.

Yes. Push down to cancel on the Maxim (This may be dependent on the year. I know it to be true for '81)

I will have to take a better look when I get home. I do not think it has the ability to push down and it seems to be as far inward as it will go at the moment so it may be there is a spring mechanism inside to push it back out that is not working.
The signals are working fine but trying to slide it in the opposite direction to cancel manually is just not reliable and it seems it must have some other method than relying on the auto cancel circuit.
This is an 82 Maxim XJ750J. I have an 85 XJ750 that pushes in to cancel.

    Thanks.

They aren't, but the wiring is the same.

I found that indeed it is a push down to cancel. The button is just a bit stiff on the slide so I will use the info above to take it apart, clean it up and lube it properly.

    Thanks everyone.
