Wondering if someone knows off the top of their head at at approximately what battery voltage does the tci fail to work, or you would lose spark?

Of course. I say I believe it's 9 volts as when you do a standing/cranking test of the battery voltage you want the voltage 12.2 or above standing, and no less than 9 when the start button is pushed otherwise you will likely end up with a crank no start/no spark condition

Anything below 10 volts is sketchy. Below 9 and it's definitely a no-go.

Took me almost 20 years of XJ ownership to figure this out. It was why I often could not get my XJ started, esp. at the beginning of riding season, when my battery started to age. It would crank and crank, but no fire. Once I jumped to a car battery, or cranked it with a charger attached, it would fire right off.

I upgraded to AGM sealed Battery ..was not cheap but if I only get one season out of a conventional Wally World Battery ( CHINA) and have to buy another one next season ... Bought the best this year supposed to be 3 yr battery. and no mess !!!! Bike seams happy have yet to have it run down cranking engine. Just my 2 cents worth.
