I guess I have 4 months to get her done. Hoping to make it this year!

 

I'm hoping to get out there, just to learn some things if nothing else. I'll know a lot closer to the summer. Sounds like a great event.

 

Just enough time left to take care of my passport renewal.

 

The date is looking good for me!

 

Dave, what the hell man?! I've been scouring the Eastern US Rallies/Clinics section to see when you would announce this! It's on my calendar now, and I'm planning on coming! Keep us posted with details.

Exactly correct. Very few people even read through those forums. Why post it where there's little activity?

 

Funny, I didn't realize the other forum existed. I may have military duty that day, but if I get my retirement papers in time, I am planning on being there.

 

Baldy been's hanging out there looking for the clinic, he might account for all the traffic LOL.

 

And while we're on the subject of underutilized areas, why is there no ball pit in the ballroom?!

I'm getting my folder of things together, and will be emailing that the people who have expressed interest in coming. Just wanted to bring people up to date, since the carb clinic is just over 2 months away now......

 

I'm in. Send the info... We have PM'd before regarding shims if you recall. I can start another conversation if need be.

I'm working on the winch/ramp set up for the truck now...

I have several things on my XJ to-do list and I intend to have all replaceable items with me, even if time does not permit getting everything done. For the benefit of all considering making the trip, what do you think is do-able in the allotted time? For instance, I did a bottom end rebuild to the carbs last year (no rack split), but I now have the fuel o-rings and throttle shaft shaft seals (thanks Len!) to do a full split and clean/rebuild. Additional work includes a fork seal replacement (will have those items ready as well), rear brake, cover gasket, as well as the standard stuff, oil change (shaft as well), air filter, etc...

I guess what I'm asking is, what should I do prior to the trip, to make best use of clinic time?

As I am making final plans now, I would like to ask that anyone who is planning to come… Could you please confirm:

1. That you are coming
2. What work you need done
3. One special skill you might have so that I can match up tasks to be done

I might also add that you don't NEED to have a particular skill or task to be done--

If you're just coming to watch and learn, that's the best skill of all..... Having the will to learn, and doing just that

 

That's my plan ... learn as much as I can.

I'll be there, rain or shine, since my wife picked up a nice rain suit for my birthday.

 

Me too. But I'm hauling my XJ in the back of the truck. Does that make me a bad person?

 

Perfectly fine....heck - one guy will probably come in on his Goldwing, and another will probably come in on his v-Rod.......I always allow the Harley to park out in the field where no one will really see it.......lol

 

Why have just one type of bike? OK, besides the whole budget thing. Grin.

 

I don't have just one type..... There's the Xj's, then Honda 305 Dream, Honda gl1000 Goldwing; suzuki 750 waterbuffalo, suzuki 1500 intruder; Harley/aermacchi 250 sprint; a virago, and a couple xs750 triples

So I can leave my e-tool (military entrenching tool or small shovel, in case anyone doesn't know) at home? No need to dig holes or use trees? Must be a pretty classy event. Lol.

 

Wait... There will be running water in the port-o-potty? I'm not sure how else to to identify a classy event.

 

Alright, it's time for me to come clean. I let this fall off my radar and I haven't been preparing for this weekend at all. I'm going to call myself out now so Dave doesn't worry when I don't show up.

CNYCC#9 Local Update...Saturday: High 69 degrees, Precipitation (still) 30%, I'm assuming YICS still 100%

 

Weather forecast-typical for around here

Carb clinic is on, rain or shine

 

Will be there with XJ in tow... not in the truck as I had hoped. My attempts got me a busted finger and a creased front fender (the latter hurt worse... ). Luckily Harbor Freight didn't take too close a look at my returns... heh.

 

What a feeling--- coming home from work yesterday and finding that there is no canopy.... Just bare bikes and equipment.

Obviously, some serious wind yesterday--- the 10x20 canopy, tiedowns, stakes, frame..... All in a wad around my tractor farther down the lawn.

To get there, it HAD to get blown straight up, then up and over the other 12x20 canopy.

It must have been quite a sight.

Anyway, as of midnight last night, it's all back in place, the broken and bent puppies are bandaged and supported, and the holes are taped. It'll get through the weekend, then probably time for a new one.

Not a single mark on any of the bikes....

This'll probably be a couple weeks sooner than I ideally want it, but on the off chance, I could get my shit together in less than a day, what's involved? I assume I could show up with a rack of carbs and some tools at minimum? If I had figured out sooner than yesterday that I needed a carb-rebuild ASAP, I may have ordered a rebuild kit by now.

 

Although I have decided to replace brake shoes while at the clinic, there isn't an actual requirement to bring anything. I just want to watch the valve clearance check process, so I will be better educated when I do my own bike. So even if you can't get things together to bring anything with you, I still encourage you to come out for the event. This will be my first, and it should be great.

There's a front fork rebuild on the agenda as well. Will be driving through the night to get there bright and early!
