The rear wheel has splines for the rear diff and a brake drum incorporated into it. The front rim is set up for dual rotors and spaced for the brake calipers. You might be able to find a different style wheels from another Yamaha of the same time period but aftermarket "updated" wheels are going to be tough to come by and I would suspect expensive.
What kind of look are you really after? Some guys want wire spoked wheel in the front. I think they find a front end from another bike and do a complete swap.

You will need to either make a bore reducing sleeve, find bearings to suit, or modify the axle bores on the forks with a split sleeve.

Stock axles are not 1 inch. Stock axles are metric.

If your springer front fork is truly in inches vs metric you are going to have to have axels custom machined to your needs. How are you going to incorporate front brakes into your new fork set up? Front brakes are going to be about 70% or better of your stopping power.

I was thinking the Stock Yamaha Front axel would not be working so good on an aftermarket fork setup. Hence a custom fabricated axel would need to be made with shims and reducers to work correctly.
