This is funny, yet sad. Have the bike somewhat dismantled for valve clearances. I have read about the original fuse box failures so I thought I would check it out. That is when I noticed there are no wires leading into or out of the fuse box. Seems it has already failed and the PO spliced inline fuse holders (glass type) into the wires and by passed the fuse box entirely. I guess it works...just wonder if I should replace it with an ATC fuse panel or leave well enough alone.

There's nothing really wrong with glass fuses but a new fuse panel sure looks nice

Well...after looking at the wires numerous times through out the day...the connections and the black tape, I ordered a ATC Fuse Panel and will rewire the birds nest under the seat. Just can't stand things out of order...lol

RadioShack has some pretty nice project boxes or a four block glass fuse holder that I've replaced crummy stock boxes with before. I'll take some pics of my electrical work and pass it on.

watch that your new one has a "in" for each "out", a circuit for each fuse. four fuses should have eight connections
some have one in and a few out.
    chacal sells the right kind

GOOD ADVICE. The circuit configuration is NOT what you might expect. A "common buss" is possible, but not without modifications.

If you want to stick with original glass fuses and keep the original fusebox, you can use clips from the Radio Shack fuse holders to rebuild an original fusebox:

If a PO completely removed the original fusebox and you're going that original on a resto, XJ4Ever has original style fuseboxes too.

Myself, I like the original setup; but upgrading to a modern ATC fuse box makes the most sense and I would highly recommend it.

I like the original style too, certainly better than the nasty plastic/resin type with the fuse wire just kinda folded round them like the PO fitted to mine :?
ATC are probably the way to go for long term reliability though.

Thanks guys..did order a fuse panel, not a terminal block. The PO left the fuse box, with the extra 2 fuses, but everything thing else was gone. No fuse holders at all. Since it looks like I will be soldering and heat shrinking, I figured that I might as well upgrade to an ATC fuse box. Just don't want to be that guy on the side of the road pushing a bike. :)
