A long time ago...on an interstate pretty far away...

I had recently changed my oil prior to this particular bike trip. At the apex of my trip, I noticed my oil sight glass a little low, so I decided to top her off. I think I put the entire quart in, the sight glass was hardly filling. It wasn't 20w 50, because I couldn't find it. May have settled with 10w 40...

On the way back home, it starts raining, real heavy like. As I'm climbing speed and find myself in need of 5th gear, I squeeze the clutch, pump ole lefty up and nothing, can't go up. I try again and nothing. With the clutch pulled in, I drop to 3rd and back up to five skipping 4th. I know something is up. What do I do? I pull over one time in that 3 hour trip for a top up. I have to skip 4th again. I land, let her cool and take a look at the sight glass, too full. I drain a little, start her up and can't leave 1st gear. Stuck in first gear and so I shut it down. Hasn't seen the road since...

I want to make the time to fix my mistakes. Help me xjbikes. What have I done?

All the best science fiction novels are written on a 1947 Royal KMM typewriter ;)

Asimov wrote some great stories about switching to word processors. I dunno if he switched, but the stories felt personal. I also don't know if Stephen King counts as sci-fi, but he did a lot of his writing with, gasp, a pencil and paper, like a caveman!

Only what the other fine gentlemen have mentioned. Suspect one, shift pawl springs. Suspect two, alternator chain guide failure. Suspect three is bent shift forks, but you don't want to hear that (and it's not very commom).

As for the oil level: when you noticed that it was low was the bike on the centerstand for at least five minutes before you checked the oil level?
