Page 218 of Haynes manual rectifier test

Am I reading this wrong it's says red wire from tester goes to the red wire on rectifier black wire goes to white wire, I get nothing from this when I switched black to red and red to white I get a reading.

 

red probe to anode (red orphan annie, she has red hair)
black probe to cathode (black cat)
for diode D1 you test from white wire A to red wire D you should get a reading from one direction and when you reverse the probes you should get no reading

one test is with voltage on voltage setting fig 6.2 the other test is with meter on diode setting fig 6.3

with meter set to diode test, red probe on white, black probe on red you should get a reading of aprox .556 with probes reversed you should get no reading.
with red probe on black and black probe on white you should get a reading of aprox .556
with red on white and black probe on black wire you should get no reading.
I just tested a v regulator as I wrote this

move probe from white to white to test

 

you are testing correctly and there are two wires you test from to the white wires red wire (D1,D2,D3,) and black wire D4,D5,D6,) to white

if you test from green to white or brown to white you get 1.48 reading because you are testing 2 diodes or no reading when you reverse probes

I can not explain the reading you get when you test green wire with red probe to brown wire with black probe .556 and greenwire with black probe to black wire with red probe .851

 

I will run more test soon as I park this dump truck

 

Testing from D1 through D6 I'm getting around 500 green wire with red probe brown wire with black probe 528 from green to white or brown to white nothing

 

when testing d1 through d6 you test to black wire (D4,D5,D6,) and red wire (D1,D2,D3,) to the white wires as stated in manual

I will test my other VRs from green to white and brown to white and let you know what I get

are you just testing to test or do you have a charging problem?

I do not know if the wire tests mean anything as the manual does not ask to test them.

 

Yes I have a charging problem and my stator connection is melted

 

have you ohmed out the alternator and checked the brushes?
