I have an 82 750 Maxim with the digital gauge cluster.
I really liked the look of it but after so many years now hardly any of it functions properly.
The last thing to malfunction is the speedo.
Does anyone have some input into replacing the whole gauge setup
with something else? A basic analog setup?
Open to all ideas for a substitute.
    Thanks

I know. All of the DYI threads are in that forum, including that which you seek. It's worth your time to go looking and see all of the good things people have written up.
Thre are also a bunch of threads that cover your qustuons in the modifications forum.

If you just want to change to different gauges (yours CAN be repaired), then go here.

Here's the wiring mods to remove the rectangular instruments

But, honestly, you're missing out on a bunch of good articles by going straight to that thread.

I do appreciate the help but yes I did check out both links.
I dont need help on the mechanical or electrical end of things.
I am really looking for ideas and a perhaps some photos of the finished product. Not one article I have seen shows a photo of the finished job.
Since I had already looked through the forums I was hoping for some input that hasnt been posted yet.
I will keep poking around. Perhaps I will find something eventually.

    Thanks

Apologies; I misunderstood your question. If you look in the showcase you'll find several members bikes, and if you do a google search for round gauges, followed by the command site:xjbikes.com you should get plenty more examples. Most people have used gauges from Mikes XS, or from our local vendor Chacal.

Craig, you may be new here, but take the advice given, and do a lot of reading. K-moe gave you a link to a wealth of info. As a newbie, you may not know how to use the search engine, so here's a Freebie for you to help you get started on your search. BUT---be ready to get. Bigger-picture answers til you are able to ask more focused questions:

    Thanks for the input.

I did take the advice given.
I thanked k-moe for his efforts.
I did also consult the forums before I posted the question.
As stated I was hoping to find something differant from what I had already discovered on my own searches.

I will continue to look around.

If I ever complete the modification I will post pictures of the process from start to finish. Then others may have an easier time if they wish to do the same or similar project.

    Thanks.
