ok... dumb question, but because the head stock bearing dust seals I got from Chacal don't match the originals on the stem and frame, I wasn't 100% sure which way they go. Cupping the bearing, or flat side to the bearing?

Here are a couple pics of the stem where the lower bearing goes, to show what I mean:

I did this several years ago so my memory is a little vague, but I do remember just using the original seal which was in very good condition. I seem to recall that I did this because the replacement seal inner diameter did not fit over that bottom lip, and relied on the bearing inner race to hold it captive. Also, the new seal outer diameter was slightly smaller than OEM, and did not provide a friction seal with the steering neck.

Len (always at his computer) is always receptive to emails if he doesn't reply here shortly, so that may be your best bet. I know he also sends out instructions with this install, but I could not find those as they are likely buried away in a box somewhere, or maybe even trashed.

My best guess would be flat against the bearing as that resembles the original orientation of the OEM seal, but wait on Len or others to confirm before going that route.

The dust seal is installed as-shown in the top photo of your post.
