I'm looking to put a solo seat on my XJ550 project and have yet to completely figure it out. I would imagine I have to fabricate a custom seat pan. Just wondering what anyone else has done.

I've never had a Solo seat so correct me if I'm wrong, but would the seat bolt directly to the pan then you attatch the springs to the pan and a support bar?

On any motorcycle seat the seat is stapled to the seat pan (or in the case of the seats from the early 20th century, laced over the seat frame). The pan os then affixed to the motorcycle frame by a variety of methods; usually either a combination of hinges and latches (what you have now), or springs (normally used on a hardtail frame).
Solo seats do not have to look like what XJ550H posted. There are several styles.

What are you after? Seat design ideas, mounting ideas, both?

Mainly mounting ideas. Going for one with the spring look. I was thinking of welding a bar in for the springs to sit on but I don't know anything about Solo seats :(
