I painted my XJ650 (1982) frame and during the process I disassembled the bike and disconnected the bike wires.
I putted everything back together but the bike has one issue: the left signal won't light (front & rear) .

The right signal works perfectly (flashes). The left signal is unresponsive. The dashboard turn light indicator only lights up when I signal right.

    Here is what I've tried:

    - I double checked the wires with the wiring diagram.
    - Switched the right lights with the left lights to check if the light bulb might be the issue.
    - I tested the turn light sockets and only the right turn light sockets gets voltage when activated (checked front & rear).
    - No issues with the flasher (I'm assuming this since the right turn light is working). There is voltage in the flasher signal socket when either the left or right signal is activated.
    - Signal fuse looks good. Replaced it with a new one just to be safe.

No avail with any of my attempts.
Any recommendations on what to check/try next?

Yes, right is green and left is brown.
Just checked. Everything seems in place in the headlight section.

If the right side works then you can assume all is good with the flasher relay, fuse, and wiring to the input to the turn signal switch on the left control.

From there, the power on the common input wire (Brown/white) to the turn signal switch is directed to either the left or right signals. A SPDT (Single pole double throw) switch accomplishes this. So, when you push the switch to the right, the 12V from the common wire connects to the Dg (dark green wire), which then connects to the bulbs and then to ground completing the circuit.

When you push the turn signal switch to the left, the 12V from the common wire connects to the Ch (chocolate wire), which then connects to the bulbs and then to ground completing the circuit.

So, if the none of the lights on the left are working, then either the turn signal switch is not closing routing the 12V to the Ch wire, or there is a bad connection at the Ch wires. Since all the bulbs are wired in parallel, then the most likely point in common is the turn signal switch or the single wire (Ch) at the output of the switch that connects to the main harness.

I Opened the switch control to check why it might not be closing the 12V.
When I move around the black board (shown in the picture) and manually move the turn switch, the respective turn light will light.
But when I screw the brown board back the turn lights stops working. Thoughts?

That brown board seems to be part of the cancelling unit

That's correct, the momentary contacts reset the self cancelling unit.

Here is a pic of the internals of the switch. It can be disassembled and cleaned and coated with dielectric grease, or you can just spray it with contact cleaner while it is still mounted and work it back and forth a bit to see if it starts behaving OK. Or you can do what you did if it hangs in there :)

Took a closer look. It was the brown (left signal

Thanks Rooster53, that really helps understand the switch internals!

I took a closer look and the brown wire (left signal) was loosely placed in slider switch contacts.
I soldered it back in and now the issue is fixed. Cheers!
