Yes, RS36 flat slides that are were made for the FJ1100. They have a really heavy throttle spring... really heavy. Mikuni said there is a few way to configure the spring, and the lightest setting was used, but it is still super heavy. Bike starts and idles perfectly but might be a little rich. Greg was guessing a bit given the altitute difference, etc.

Sorry, I thought your point was that pods would not not work well with the factory CV-style carbs, so I was pointing out that those issues are not a problem because the stock carbs were replaced with Mikuni RS Flat slides that work well with pod filters. Sorry if I missed your point.

I did consider velocity stacks, which I think would look cooler but in the end I went with what I know.

I got Pods on my Kawa ZRX with CV style carbs in place and zero issues. They look cool as hell too and it gets a ton of compliments. I went with the pods `cause I put on a full Akra exhaust and did a stage 2 jet kit and removed the airbox. Your bike as posted looks just fantastic and the perfect paint scheme.

Thanks Daithi. I'm really happy with the FZR1000 forks and the works performance shocks out back. Some have suggested I should went with upsidedown forks, but I like conventional forks with dual shock bikes because it is more period correct to eye anyway... and these are 43 mm, so they offer good heft that looks cool. Greg Hageman is just so talented. It is a joy to call him a friend.

Mike, I agree totally with you on the look of the bike. The conventional forks work best with a period bike like this, aided and abetted by the spoked wheels. Very retro. Being 43mm, they are big and beefy compared to the originals ( My Seca 750 has 36mm tubes !! ). I am sure it handles lovely with the beefy forks and upgraded suspension. Its got a Monochromatic look beautifully offset by the splash of bright red on the tank and tail. Looks like the XJ550 Seca colours. Is that a 550 tank and tailpiece ??? The exhaust looks just right too and all that chrome and the polished lower engine cases are a great touch. Any more pics of this beauty for us to admire ????

Hey now.....36mm was big and beefy back then. :)

The front does look much nicer with the newer forks.

The more I look at it, the more I want it.

Then I remember that my back does not like the cafe crouch anymore.

Really enjoyed the read. Love both bikes. Which part of Florida is Greg Hageman from? I know there is Dime City Cycles in Largo. Just wondering if they are in the same area.

    Hi XJOE550,

Greg is in a Tampa burb, but he is an Eastern Iowa guy all the way. Greg knows the Dime City crew really well; they are friends. Same for Alan Bernard, another custome builder of note. Tampa has quite the scene.

    Here is Greg's website:
