    Hi All,

I have a stock steering stabilizer that I would like to mount on my Seca but I am not seeing how it mounts. If someone that has one would be willing to take a couple of pics for me it would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks

It mounts to the under side of the lower triple clamp. There's 2 cast post where the steering damper mounts in between. I'm at school right now, but when I get home I will try as post pictures of my service manual pages that tells you how to mount it

The later rotary damper mounts that way (only on 1983 frames), but the earlier piston type damper does not.

I can post up pics of the piston damper this evening.
I'm assuming that he has a Seca 750.

Are you taking about the heavy steering damper that you out on during the front fairing installation?

This is an '82 750 and it is the piston type stabilizer. Thank you both for your willingness to help!

I am, and there are two styles of damper for the Seca 750. Both were installed with the tour package. The piston type in '82, and the rotary type under the steering stem in '83.

A borrowed photo of the damper on the bike:

I have that one installed on my bike. When the fairing broke, my father left it on because he liked the feel of it. He still has the original damper as well

it says your in box is still full ? i have some better pictures if you still want them. you need to stack some washers under that 8mm bolt that goes into the frame to make up for something that was probably in the fairing mount

Thank you just what I wanted. If you have one, a couple questions.

    Is the dampening adjustable?
How long is the stroke of the ram?

no, not easily, maybe by changing to a different weight oil. not really hard but not easy.
a little bit longer than it needs to be...........?

i ask because i have ordered an aftermarket unit, thinking i was just being clever, not realizing this was a factory option. i can easially make my own mounts, i worry the stroke might be too short on what i bought. but i will know for sure when it shows up.

    thats why i ask.

and if i know the stroke needed there are other units that would work. i like the idea of new and these are all adjustable. the only limiting factor would be total travel. now i suppose a person could always get clever wtih their mounitng and make antyhing work, but just want it to be clean.

It may sound like a dumb question, but is this device actually useful at average speeds or is it only when you're way beyond legal limits (like 180 km/h and more) ?

something else to consider, if yours is the type that the rod goes out the back of the cylinder as it moves. that rod swings in a arc and there's not a lot of room.

i took it off for a while and really couldn't tell.
they were with the full fairing package, maybe they help with all the weight?
they look trick as hell though :)
