Saw this ad this morning - XJ750 Maxim X in Toronto area $400

Just thought I might share this with our XJ Community... it's not my bike or anyone I know, just saw the ad.

Going to check it out this Friday. If it runs ill probably bite, I wouldn't mind having another maxim to tinker with

I talked to him on the phone this afternoon

 

This past Monday I picked up another bike, an '83 Honda VT500FT with 16,000 km's on it (about 10,000 miles). It was sleeping away in an old scottsman's garage for the past 15 years. I love when the original tools are still in the little compartment and the owner's manual come with a bike.

Anyways, cleaned the carburetors, the tank was clean (no rust or guck), put a new battery in it (all the electricals worked) and took it for a spin this afternoon. Still have to play with the front calipers as the pistons are seized from sitting so long, but I'll post some questions about that in another topic.

Here's a picture of the bike, he was asking $300, I was okay with that price

Hey Beekman, I like the part where he says "No reasonable offer refused". Tell him you know a guy who thinks a boot in the arse would be reasonable! Haha. I would be concerned about the 100 thousand kms too. Perhaps that is a bargaining point...

The hundred thousand is kind of putting me off. Not sure it will be worth my time, I might just keep watching for a lower km one.

 

I don't see where you're finding 100,000km.

Regardless, even if it has that or the engine is trashed, the 5-valve covers and the backrest alone will pay for the bike

 

It says it in the ad (it doesnt show the kms in the mobile app, gotta go to desktop) also talked to him on the phone. Said it had one owner for 100 000km then he bought it and put 6k on it.

And youre right, i forgot about parting out if need be

Basically we agreed to have me look at it last night since he "couldnt meet earlier" (apprently he could), I said as long as it runs like you say and that pictures not super old than ill come back saturday morning and pick it up. He emailed me before I got there last night saying he sold it.

Oh well, it is kijiji so nothings guaranteed, there will be more . Im currently watching a $500 750 max that got bought before I could get there (back in april I think), now its reposted (by the guy who bought it id assume) for $1000 more!!!!! Hes not even using it!!!!

Lol, maybe the new buyer will show up here, and we'll find out how bad the bike really is, and you'll be relieved.....

 

Always leave a card with your offer and contact info. Sometimes your low offer becomes the right price after a few days.

There are 35 XJ's for sale in Ontario at the moment. Average price is $1400 (actually 36, but one guy says "please contact", so I couldn't get a price)

I was searching kijiji in all of Ontario, but didn't do a search on Secas alone.

The really good deals typically come and go within hours. Just have to be looking at the right time.

I was surprised to see over 100 listed...wow!

 

when you search Yamaha RZ in all of Ontario, you get 4 bikes, and one rolling chassis, all over 3 grand (except the chassis). Damn. That's a lot of sack lunches.

 

If I were into Suzuki GS 850's there are a pair for sale in Ottawa (different sellers). One for $300 and one for $500...they look decent.

I was just checking out Kijiji (didn't look at Craigslist). I don't know which classified is more popular in B.C. Our American friends to the south seem to be more dialed in with Craigslist than we are out here in Ontario.

Craigslist more than 2000 bikes by owner but some of that is parts. Not everyone uses the parts section for parts yet

 

Okay, we'll have to camp out on parliament hill. We can set up a circus tent and fill it with bikes (if it doesn't attract too many senators first...)
