Hi everyone. I'm a new member with a 1982 seca 650. I fell in love with this bike after seing it because it reminded me of my first bike (1980 kz1000) I picked it up for $100.00 with 7k miles. It's in rough shape but I've built many bikes(mostly kawasaki) so I can do this but I need some help!
    My questions are...
    1. Is the 1982 seca 650 a decent bike?(remember I was a kawaski guy so I never looked into yamahas)
2.are there any Good sticky tires for this?
3.Are these carbs good or should I bin em and get something else?
4.are there any decent shocks for this this model? I've seen some on eBay from $70- $280..
Any suggestions you can help me with Will be great thanks.

    1. Yes
    2. Yes
    3. Keep them, clean them, learn to love them because they make the engine sing.
    4. Yes. Choose the manufacturer of your choice and they will build a set to suit. Hagon, Progressive, and several others already have premade sets in stock. The stock shocks are pretty darned good for what they are.
    5. Read The Information Overload Hour.

The Seca 650 is a one-year model in the U.S. (multi-year elsewhere) and being a pretty to look at performer is worth restoring to stock condition, or at least making reverseable upgrades to.

Put a blindfold on its very similar to a kz,twin cam, shim and bucket, four carbs , sketchy fuse box, mag wheels things do change from here ...big headlight, drive shaft , alt behind engine, long rear fender , drum brakes in the back. But plenty of parts available from Chacal and other members.

That's what I was hopeing to hear! I've been looking for some parts for it and it all looks like my kz1000 stuff did. I'm planning on a few billet bits (lowrise bars, billet brake/clutch levers, maybe even some billet rearsets) steel braded brake lines, etc etc etc.. More of a hooligan bike than a cafe racer. And a old scool yellow and black paint job to go along with all the black and gold billet bits. It Will be one he'll of a bike within the next couple months. I'll keep everyone updated with pics as it progresses.....thanks again

I read it in Cycle World in '82, so I know it's true.

One very reliable parts source can be found by clicking the flashing sign that is at the upper right hand corner of every page.
