Hello everyone. I'm new here and have an ignition switch question. I'm restoring an 82 xj750j maxim. I replaced the key switch with a new aftermarket switch that does not have the plug for the white/red wires that go to the battery sensor and instrument panel. The sensor is bypassed anyway but what about the instrument panel? Did the old switch provide 12v power or just complete the circuit?

So if I put a toggle switch on the two white/red wires I should be OK? The battery sensor wire has been fitted with a 2.2k resistor and attached to the switched tail light wire

That would work, or you could wire a relay in to the taillight circuit so the cluster lights come on when the igntion is on.
