Hey all, I have found at least one mistake in the 1982 Xj1100 wiring diagram. I am wondering if there may be more... I am currently in the process of making a new harness for the bike, and when the red and yellow wire from the main switch is connected to the left side of the bikes signal unit then the flashers come on in the off position (but dont flash). On my way to the garage to look at everything again, until then does anyone have any ideas what may be going on?

    Thanks

Where did you get the diagram. I have one that is from the back page of the owners manual.

I have two different ones. The original which is massively complex is the one that I followed. It is also wrong on more than one account. That red and yellow wire does not go where the diagram says
    it should...

Try looking over at XS11.com. The XJ1100 is very, very simmilar and a lot of XJ1100 owners are on that forum. There is probalby a thread about service manual errors, if not a corrected wiring diagram.

My front signal lights come on with the headlight when the bike is running. I'm not sure why they wired it like that but it's the only one of my bikes that does that.

I guess if you need me to snap a picture without ripping into my bike too much I could do that.

PO may have done a running lights conversion. I did it on '82 maxim.

I have been through the wiring on two of my XJ11s troubleshooting light problems on both and have not found anything wrong with the factory wiring diagrams. Not to say there is not any but I have not seen of heard of one.
I just got a XJ11 parts bike complete and running if you are interested in a wiring harness PM me.

The XJ1100 has running lights for the front turn signals (double filament) .

That was a DOT requirement for all motorcycles starting sometime around 1975. Not for the rear just the front. Quite a few modified the rear to run double filament bulbs, I did.
