help ID this bike!

Help me ID this bike. It may be an overseas model but is a 650/4 Yamaha... TIA!





I am guessing this bike has been "customized"?

 

Possible Police model?

 

Looking at the gauges, definate police model.

What is the actual model and are there specs for the carburetors? Mikuni or Hitachi? etc. Thanks wg

 

Put up an engine/frame/vin number, that'll make it easy to ID year/model

 

I am being told VIN is: 36G-000394

On page 43, the 36G model has no designation, however the 37G is for the 1983 XJ650 Police model in the "Other" category for country.

My guess is that is is a Police model made for Mexico, or somewhere in South America (and that is just a guess). The lettering on the side panels does not look to be factory, and was quite possibly added by a dealer after the machine had beed removed from service. I can't recall any U.S. police departments using or even testing the Yamaha machines, but I'm not an expert.

All Police models were made with parts from several existing models, to suit the specifications of the ordering agency.
I can see that yours has XJ750 Seca instruments, fuel tank, side panels; XJ750 maxim forks, brakes; and an XJ750 frame. The engine is likely a 650 (the size is cast into the base of the cylinders on the front between cylinder #2 and #3), but may be a 750.

All the other model lists I have looked at are as vague about the 36G as the one that Tony looked at.

If I had to guess it is an xj650 police model, does it match the pictures below?

The bike belongs to a customer. He is trying to get some carburetors for the thing. It looks like Hitachi carbs on the cop bike pictured in the last post. The customer's bike is overseas and appears to still have the factory airbox. By the way, I attempted to read the very long tutorial written on VINs that was linked above and had a hard time wading through all of it. Guess I am getting too old to read stuff like this.

 

It will run with HItachi HSC 32 carbs if the engine is a 650 or a 750. The main jets and the jet needles are the only setup difference needed between those two engines

More info in from customer; turns out it was a Nepalese cop bike; he is not near bike and someone else gave him the VIN and he is double checking but based on odd situation, VIN likely won't turn up in the .pdf file that listed them anyway. Thanks! wg

PS: How the heck do I get involved in Nepalese cop bikes anyway? bwhahaha

I came to know that there were 300 XJ650's gifted by Japan on the occasion of King Birendra's crown ceremony. I see merely 10 Bikes up and running. Lucky that i got one.
