I've always wondered why the right side panels are rarer. Is it because the sun hits them more when on the kick stand? I know my '83 has a faded right side cover, left side not so much.

My theory is the battery is accessed more than the other side so the grommets and tabs loosen up more so the panel is more prone to coming off in the wind.

Or they just get stepped on because they're off the bike more often.

That reminds me, might be time to replace the grommets. Good insurance!

I did this after the powdercoat. Even though the old ones were in decent shape, the new ones hold much better! The whole set adds up but cheaper than finding another matching side panel.

Yup, because it gets pulled much more often since it's the battery cover. Plus, as others surmised, the rubber grommets harden up which puts even more stress on the cover.

    Best thing is :

    Replace grommets
Take it easy when removing cover
Support the tabs if you can reach, too

    Yup....

Also, look closely at the two boxes for the brackets.... One starts with ABA, the other with ABB. They are two different sets of brackets--- one set it the usual set for the tall back rests and the other number is actually for the short grab bar. The shorter grab bar is angled slightly different and the brackets themselves are about half an inch longer to accommodate things

    Dave you are killing me!
What's the story on the saddlebag/ tour pack combo?
Are those JASO MA quarts of oil holding them up?

Seriously, what bikes would those fit?

Those are two sets for the xj750 Seca that are going to be going onto a couple bikes when I get the chance.

The oil bottles are empty Yamalube 10w-40....my preferred Dino juice

The show bike kit-you're looking at it. That's about all I can tell you , except for the fact that they made at least two sets is accurate. How can I I be so sure.........take a wild guess------

As I get the chance to go through things, Len and and I are hoping to be able to make copies of the component kits.

    Something doesn't seem right--

-The color scheme is not the usual black/silver on red as the rest of the USA-delivered bikes
-the rear fender is the longer Eurpoean style fender, not the shorter USA-delivered fenders

Why does he think it's "new (not LIKE new) when:

-There are handle bar bolt covers missing
-there are scrapes all over the front
    -the left mirror is wrong
    -the right mirror is missing
-the left control is on wrong
    -the crash bars are hideous
-there are a number of incorrect windshield bolts and nuts
-other misc bolts and nuts are incorrect
    -rash on the muffler
    -incorrect fuel cap
-yellow frame reflectors are missing under the air scoops
-Right side air scoop has brake fluid damage on the top, and on the fender
    -tank had to be re-sealed
    -master cylinder has been replaced
-I wouldn't trust those nasty cracks in those tires
-no idea what those decals on the side covers are supposed to be for---

Otherwise, it's a nice low-mile bike for someone to grab.

If anyone is able to get it, please contact me privately with the serial number, so I can add it to the registry if it turns out to be a USA bike......I tend to think it is not.

But I doubt you'll find too many 900 shaft drives of that era with that mileage even if you do need to do a bit to it to appease the pedantic purists.

There should be a recall on that bike. It has the wrong fairing on it!!
Looks more like it was based off the 550. Pretty cool though.
