I'm looking for titled frame or roller in northern new Mexico. 81-82 xj maxim or 82 xj seca. I have an
82 seca engine with only 8k miles and I'd like to build a bike around it.

I have an 82 xj650rj seca motor with 8k on it. So, I'm looking for an 81-82 xj650 maxim or xj650 seca
titled frame or roller. Excuse me for not being more specific.

Remember the '82 650r was a non-YICS engine. The 650 maxims were non-YICS '80-81, and YICS '82-83. So if you get a loaded roller, be aware of the differences.

Also, the shifter linkages and covers are different between 650r and 650 maxim

So If I get an 82 maxim frame I won't be able to install a seca engine in it ? I thought the frames were
the same. Right now I have both an 82 650 maxim and an 82 650 seca.I guess I'll have to do some measuring.

I was looking for a bare titled frame because it's less weight to ship. There are plenty of parts here but it's almost impossible to
register a bike in New Mexico without a title. Last spring I built an xj650 maxim out of an 81 parts bike and an 82 titled frame
I still have that parts bike frame left over but can't do any thing with it because it has no title. Maybe I'll do a search of Southwest
USA salvage yards and get a completely stripped seca frame shipped to me or keep looking for one around Santa Fe and Albuquerque.

I didn't say the frames were different. I said there are differences between YICS and non-yics engines. To name a few--possibly the mounting hardware, shifter cover/linkage, wire harness, jetting, intake boots....etc......

You need to check all the differences so you know what to change as you swap (if you're changing from YICS to non-yics......

No problem hogfiddles you have always been helpful in the two years I have paticipated in the xjbikes forum. No matter whether I use a 650 maxim frame
or a 650 seca frame, I will have to use a lot of seca parts like the central exhaust crossover and the rear footpeg frames but I will probably
mix in as many maxim parts as I can get away with. Having two maxims and a seca helps with measurements.

    There's another difference-

650 maxim-no collector box. 2/1 receiver for each muffler and receiver is an integral single part with the muffler, and integral two-piece crossover tube

650 Seca - collector box, and is unique to that model

If it's in running it may be a decent price, but what is "running condition"?

    $400---running condition

Runs but only firing on three cyls, lots of dent, rust, missing parts, torn seat, hacked wires....Offer him $150.00

Running decent, higher miles, no record of service/carbs cleaning/shims....offer $$300-350, be ready with the $400 if he hold the line

Runs well, Excellent condition, nice chrome, no dents, tears, all maintenance records ..... $why are you just standing there -give him the $400 and skeedaddle Before he can change his mind

Don't expect the 550 parts to fit your 700 though...

I've got an 82XJ650 Seca frame. All intact. Hell, I'd trade it to someone for a case of decent beer just to clear space out of the garage. I'm in New England though.

OP, I saw you mention you're in northern New Mexico. I'm in Santa Fe. I have a 1981 XJ750 seca that was just in a wreck - front forks bent and some other things broken but frame and engine seem fine, still runs, has a title. I don't know if you're interested in coming and having a look, I don't know what to do with it. I need major knee surgery since the crash (car pulled out in front of me) and my riding days are over. I've attached a pic of it since the crash.
