I'll agree that the bars are not terribly comfortable. I replaced mine with EMGO Classic bars. Save the originals and the covers. They have rising value as more of the Seca 750's get modified or parted out.

The Atari is super cool (the systems monitor part anyway). You can go a few directions with that.

    1. Leave it (my choice)

    2. Remove it entirely and fit diffrent gaugees (requires rewiring).

    3. Relocate the systems monitor and fit different gauges (there is a thread two about that).

    4. Make, or have made, a new mount for gauges that incorporates the systms monitor (there is at least one thread for that as well).

Wow, i just started it up after rebuilding carbs. It fired right up. I'm excited, first time doing carbs on any bike.
No leaks, idling fine, chrome not pitted at all. It's looking bad ass! V__A5E5.jpg

Time to do the brakes. The lines look original (4 year service life. Well past due for replacement).

She is a looker. I'm not sure that I'd want to do any modifications, aside from a bar swap, if it were mine.

It's called "vapour blasting " bead blasting with water in a slurry. Cleans and polished instead of leaving the surface rough and prone to staining

Well the smooth running was short lived. Idle was great and ran good for about two blocks. I checked compression: 9,96,92,125.
Not good news. I feel like i need to completely rebuild the carbs, as i did not clean the emulsion tubes. I cleaned everything else pretty good ( pics) but I noticed one needle still had gunk on very tip on cyl 2. So, before I go jumping to conclusions and regret buying this bike cuz of refurbishing and rebuilding. I figure I should do the carbs correctly and completely.Try running it again and hope for the best. This is the first time doing anything other than basic stuff on a bike. Like a car, I like to know about the machine im drivin.
PS, I realize fuel tube is clear, it was a temp.
Thanks for listening any advice is greatly appreciated. Im packing up now to hit the Hanford, CA motorcycle swap meet this weekend.

Very nice and the bike is running better? Did you use air pressure when you cleaned the carbs? I see that all the nasty green is gone, didn't know if you soaked them or just cleaned them by hand? Great pics on the post, keep it up.

Nope I did not that is the problem Im sure. I really hope that is the extent of the issues. Especially after I sold my Triumph 955I (pictured) and bought this Seca.
The Triumph was nice, very fast. Easy to ride but heavy and just to much bike for me. I had fun for a year on it, but not my kind of bike. I prefer older vintage bikes.

ope that was all by hand. However I missed a crucial part of main jet under that plate. If the floats and bowls looked like that I can imagine they are the same.

Nice job on the carbs. Been there on my 81 Seca. I agree the original bars are not comfortable and padding looks like something out of grandma's buick.
(sorry to all the hardcore XJ #keepitoriginal out there :) )
I posted a little while ago that I changed to clubmans and mounted them upside down. A little unorthodox, but perfectly comfortable, not too low and looks good with the bike. Handling is much better as well.

Whole new rebuild kit on Monday. Until then a carb can never be to clean.

    Well there's your problem.

When you pull the air jets keep in mind that they can be put into the wrong locations, and that all of the service manuals show them in the wrong location.
    Below is correct.

You really need to break the rack seperate the carb bodies, full tear down and a full soak and replace the shaft seals and fuel rail O ring replacement. The nasty green gunk will be in the small passages spray cleaner will not get in there . Submerging the carbs is only way that will work soak emulsion tubes and float bowls and floats and jets . This usually takes 1 hr per carb. This is the church of clean .

I swapped out my original big square bars too; hideously ugly things that weren't particularly comfortable either.

I went with the Daytona Touring EMGO bars (black satin finish for me) which I love dearly - roughly half the stock rise. And at a lovely $26 (+ $3 for the risers), it was a dirt cheap swap.

Gauges are more of a pita. While the "computer" monitoring system is kinda neat, the whole unit is pretty ugly and generally doesn't age well. I've two, and both are slightly melty and obviously 35 year old weathered plastic.

Personally, I'm of the opinion that they need to go, and be replaced by nice gauges and LED indicators.
