    Hi.

    Can anyone tell me what kind of vacuum readings at idle that a aircooled xj700 should have?

    Equal on all cylinders when you synchronize the carbs.
    There is no spec given. Ignore the guidelines on vacuum gauges. Those don't pertain to inline fours.
    If you have concerns about the rings or valves, do a compression test followed by a leakdown test.
