Hey Guys. I bought a Seca 650 that had not run in 30 year and slowly got it back on the road. The speedometer broke on the shake down ride (broke the needle right off and the vibration backed out one of the screws holding the face on). So I am looking for guidance on repairing the speedometer, but it gets worse... I need a matching electronic tachometer because the engine is from a Seca 750. Anyone know a good way to accomplish this with guts from another tachometer? Ideally, I want to retain the stock look, but a Speedo that goes over 85 mph would be nice!

I had a Seca 650 when they were new and the front brakes on this bike seem much weaker than I remember. I really have to squeeze them hard with all 4 fingers. Are the brake pads available with more bite? I have the forks from a Seca 750 and it has much larger brake rotors. Can the forks be swapped onto a Seca 650?

Thanks for any insight y'all can share!

You need the later model tach that is electronic. A seca with yics came with one . We had both in Canada. As for the speedo . As for the forks you probably have to use the 750 triple clamps as well due to offset axle or rake and trail will be all wonky.@hogfiddles probably has one.

As Toomanybikes mentioned, the Canadian XJ650RJC has the perfect electronic tachometer you need. It will not be easy to find. The 1981 XV920 (non-Virago) also has an electronic tach which fits the 650 Seca (same chrome nacelle) but has a shorter redline. It's a twin cylinder and I'm not sure what change to the wiring is required but I do recall this successfully done by one of the mags who installed a performance cam meant for the 750 which didn't have the mechanical drive for the mechanical tach. Again, it won't be easy to find.

I like your idea of fitting a tachometer from another bike into the chrome 650 Seca nacelle. Sure would be nice to know.

My electronic tach quit working about 20 years ago. I foolishly started dismantling it when all of a sudden I had a thousand parts flying in all directions. I was lucky to find a replacement at my local wrecker but a little sun faded. Its still working to this day. I didn't have the resource of this forum then and probably could have sprayed some cleaner/lubricant to revive it. Live and learn.

I'm not sure if this is correct? I thought they all had 270 mm discs. If you install SS lines, new pads and drill the discs you should have adequate brakes for the bike, or at least slight improvement over OEM. As TMB mentioned, the 750 Seca has leading axle forks, if anything the looks are not as nice. In addition to the brake upgrade put some stiffer springs in them. Your bike looks good BTW, great potential.

The 650rj pretty much needs the 650rj triple clamp. Otherwise, the upper fork tube contacts the tank on almost full left and right turns
