Does anyone know of a UK source for Mikuni BS36 throttle shaft seals (on a 4BB2 1992 XJ900F)? Or, what other seals fit? (Fleabay lists BS34 seals from a land far, far away for an eye-watering price). Or, has anyone had any luck using washers/o-rings/other fixes? Thanks

Don't know anywhere in the UK you can get them. Chacal has them at info@xj4ever or you can contact him by clicking on the xj4ever icon at the top right of the screen.

Available new from Yamaha. Part number 256-14997-00-00

Check with whatever Yamaha parts dealer is most accessible to you.

I googled up this one: https://www.ajsutton.co.uk/spares/search.asp?search=256-14997-00-00&currentModel=&uID=0

Price is hideous, you might be able to find better.

That's a big help, couldn't track the part number down anywhere (not in the Yam parts list I have for this bike). Thanks for your help

Or you can use the Suzuki Mikuni part number if seals are 8mm inside and 11mm outside. Quite inexpensive here.

Appreciate the thought. Spec seems to be 12x8. Actually found a US chandler who has them for $3.25 apiece, but shipping at $16. Still might be cheaper than £5+ each over here though. Tempted to try 2mm 12x8 o-rings til the overdraft recedes somewhat. All character-building, innit....

Just to close this, in case it helps someone else - ordered a set of 8 from these guys. 42% discount @ $3.21 ea, plus $15.65 UK shipping, worked out about a tenner cheaper than buying them from the UK. Thanks all for your swift and apt help, especially JPaganel for the part number.

Yamaha does not list these seals as a separate part for 4-carb racks. I'm guessing between that and peened screws they never counted on anyone disassembling them.

    Did the XS1100 use BS34s or BS36s?

Google tells me the 34 had a narrower carb slide than the 36. Be interesting to know if the throttle shaft seals were the same - too late for me now, I've ordered them, just have a twitch for this kind of trivia...

Near as I can tell, all BS series carbs have the same throttle shaft seal, regardless of carb size.

Ahh right, yes I've been in touch with Len before, incredibly helpful people. Best mod on my XJ9 is their spin-on oil filter kit. I did ask Len about seals, but found them cheaper on special at the chandlers. Worth asking him about comparable seal sizes though.

Just for the record, while waiting for the proper seals to arrive I tried using 12x8x2 O-rings, incl silly grease. No good - too much grab, noticably slowed the butterfly valve return.
