Hey guys! Longtime member. First-time posting. Just purchased an oem front brake switch for my '81 XJ seca 750. I don't know exactly where I should plug it into. Can anyone show me where it goes? Thx.

Thx buddy!! I'm pretty clear on that part of the assembly ( Been in the headlight housing a few times). To be more clear, I need 2 kno the locations where it plugs-in. I dont see any extra, color-coated wiring , inside the headlight housing.

The wires from the switch plug into the same colored wires on the right half of the wiring harness bundle in the headlight housing. Both are bullet connectors.

Is it safe to assume that the switch is now hooked up and working?

Still no switch connection. And I cant reconfigure wiring!! They are all not color coordinated. I don't know where to reconnect the blinker. Or the brake switch.

Hey K-moe!! I've taken all of the wiring out of the housing department. I noticed that there is a clutch switch, similar to the front brake switch on the opposite lever. I failed, however, to find the other two wires for the front brake switch. Again, I've disassemble the entire housing, have a clear view of all the wiring, and I do not see anywhere to put the front brake switch. 20190705_132915.jpg

No wonder you're confused. You have no headlight bucket.

The brown and green wires in the lower foreground are for the front brake switch.
Everything on the herness is color coded, and only a few of the multi-pin connecting blocks can be misconnected (and you'll know because the colors of the wires don't match).

Hey ! The pic I sent was of a completely disassembled unit. Without the housing. I've since reassembled everything) look at the picture) but there's still no place for the front brake switch to be connected. The wires that you pointed out are for the clutch switch. There are no wires for the brake switch.

The pic I posted is of the OEM front brake switch.
The wire colors are green/w yellow trace, and brown.

The clutch switch is mechanically identical, but the wire colors are Blue/with a white trace, and Black/ with a yellow trace.

Both sets of wires are visible in both of your photos.

K moe!! I just took that entire harness apart, plug by prong by prong ,& reassembled it. I swear I did not see the connection for the front brake switch. I'm going to disassemble it again tomorrow. I'll let you know what happens. Thanks again. The first bus

Sure looks to me like you DONT have all your wires back into the bucket. There are some that still appear to be missing.

    You had it hooked up---

    Now you don't--

    *not hijacking*

I redid my whole bucket today in the 40 degree humidity.

It sucked but i got rid of a lot of the old wiring for the atari that was unneeded.

    I see how it is...

Too bad I didn't try to start a second conversation or change the topic of this thread.

Then, you'd be right. (looks at moe+hog)

The topic of the thread has nothing to do with removing the ATARI.
What help did you offer the OP in getting his brake switch hooked up?
He's clearly someone who needs focused guidance. If that were not the case a slight detour would be acceptable.

Hey buddy!! I'm back! I unveiled the problem. It appears that I was sent 15627784718742115120805922671390.jpg another clutch cable as opposed to front brake cable. The color codes match identically on the clutch cable. I did however find the old front brake cable still inside of the handlebars. Can I splice the new cable and attached to Old cable to get the proper front brake connection?

I didn't remove the ATARI.. it's been gone for years. I was just saying that I was cleaning up my bucket, just as the OP was.
You make it sound like you can only comment if you have some sort of insight to give.

Remember I've been here for 11 years, I've help LOTS, I'm not a noob to this forum.

If you feel my post was that far out of line, delete it, I don't really care.

On the underside of the perch there is a small hole. Stick an unbent paperclip into it in order to release the old brake switch. After that you can install the replacement and plug it in. You can cut the one wrong-ended bullet connector off and crinp on a new one of the proper type. A splice is a bit sketchier IMO.
You should label the miscolored wires so you jog your memory if you ever have to replace that switch again. Seeing mismatched wires always makes me wonder why the wrong colors are hooked together.
