I am working on an 86 Maxim Xj700

When I push the start button it sticks in the on position and I have to pull the button out. I have taken it apart and cleaned it but that did not improve anything at all.

This is the exact starter switch that I have, the gray button inside is soldered in there, I was hoping to find just the gray button and the small assembly that goes with it.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to fix it?

I was also wondering if anyone knows if you can buy just the button assembly?

I have been having trouble locating parts, I appreciate all the help I can get.

    Thank you!

I had the same thing happen on a 700. For me cleaning and lubing did the trick

What did you use to lube it with?

Ok, with the addition of the picture I see it is not the round button, so my first suggestion does not apply.

    As far as lubrication:

    Try silicone grease.

It is dielectric, and will not stain like regular grease.

I had to clean mine twice to get it to not stick, I think after a while the plastic wears and the button binds a little.

Dielectric grease if I remember correctly.

I went out this morning with a fresh mind and took it apart again, I cleaned the button and assembly really good and greased it with Dielectric grease in all of the pivot points and where it might slide on other plastic. I also put grease in the tiny hole where the spring and little ball bearing are. Well to make a long story short my button is now as smooth as butter and all reassembled.

Thank you very much everyone for the advice.

I am guessing I will be around here for a while now that I have my XJ

    :)

Yep, I used dielectric grease as well. Every once in a while my button will stick a little, so dont forget completely just in case.
