starter full of oil

    In the last few days, the bike was a little hard starting and this morning wouldn't turn at all. Push starting it was easy. Since I replaced my battery a very short while ago, I figured it was either my starter or my solenoid.

    I was surprised to find that it was my starter, as I had taken it off to check the brushes in the spring. When I took it off today and opened it up, it was full of oil, really full.

    So, my questions for anyone who knows: what's a good cleaner to get all the oil out? and how did it get in there? how do I keep this from happening again?

    Hey DarthBob,

    I had the same problem. See this thread from back in April '06. Uh-oh, oil in my starter... What gives?

    I can't tell you how my problem is lately, as my ex just returned the bike to me after having it for a year. I'll definitely be checking the starter.
