I built the carbs on my bike which sat for 10 yrs before I got it.
YEP the carbs were gunked up worse than any I've ever seen,
well, I built the carbs and put in new needle and seat valves, synced them and tried to dial in the idle mixture... the bike ran pretty good.
The problem is, when I start the bike the exh pipe on the #2 cylinder doesnt get warm then hot untill I open the throttle and there seems to be an idle miss.
When I tried to use my Gunsons color tune the mixture never really got blue untill I opened the mixture screw too much then it wouldn't idle right!?
When I am running down the highway at say... oh about 70 or so there seems to be a detonation or rattling noise in the engine.
Does any one know this situation? I suspect there must be a jet and/or metering jet or something that is still gummed up???
Would the slide neddle valve do this, as I remember one that didn't seem to line up freely with the jet but I discounted that to being out of alignment and it seemed to go in ok.
    PLEASE HELP

no2 not hot like the rest suggests the butterfly is not open the same as the others , rattles , were they there before ?, so i'd check compression pressurs first st see if valve leaky on no2] if ok then recheck carbs .

compression check was between 93psi and 96psi.
Next plan is to go thru the carbs again.
    Thanks

That compression sounds low , maybe someone else can give you the correct values , if you do a comp check again , squirt some oil in the sparkplug holes and recheck , if it climbs up dramatically [eg:150psi its the rings if not a valve...]

Something is still gummed up on #2. Most likely choices are the starter jet in the float bowl, the pilot jet, idle mixture screw seat passages. When you cleaned the carbs did you do the following: Soak the brass bits in carb cleaner overnight, fill the carb bowls with carb cleaner and let them soak overnight, remove the pilot mixture screws along with their washers and orings and spray Berryman's B12 or suitable carb cleaner into the passages and then flow out with compressed air?
If you can't get a blue flame while colortuning then it is lacking fuel. At idle the only circuits feeding the cylinder are the starter and idle circuits. The starter circuit consists of the float bowl jet, the brass tube that inserts into it and the passages it leads to. The idle circuit consists of the pilot jet , the idle mixture screw and the carb body passages that connect the two.

I agree, sounds like BlueMaxim has you going down the right path.

May I also suggest that while you have the carbs off that you put some Marvel Mystery Oil, I think Robert suggests 2 teaspoons in each cylinder.
This may help to loosen any stuck rings that may be related to your compression issue. After all you did say it sat for 10 years. And run some Seafoam in your gas when you get it back running.

You might also add some Seafoam to the engine oil just before you change it the next time and run it through the gears while on the center stand. This will also help remove any dirt and little creatures that may have moved in over this ten year span as well.
And may also help loosen any stuck rings.

My 2 cents, good luck. :)

    Well it worked!!!
I tore apart #2 carb and found the main jet that the slide needle slides up and down in was plugged.... musta missed it before!?
Synchd carbs and adjd. mixture screws w Gunson color tune.
    It runs sooooooo smooth now!!
    THANKS EVERYONE
