I picked mine up from my stepdad's sister, who bought it from him a few years ago. He was the second owner, and bought it in 1992 or 93. So I guess that makes me the fourth owner? Anyway, it's got a Lockhart oil cooler, Jardine exhaust, and I recently put engine guards and highway pegs on it. It needs a general PM also, and I'm knocking around the idea of putting K&N style cones on the carbs. Anyone done that who might have an idea how much reworking the carbs will require? It helps, too, with things like that, that I have a friend who is an ASE motorcycle master tech who's willing to help me tinker.

This is my first bike, and thus far the only thing I've ridden. My wife'll be learning to ride it shortly, too, so I guess I may have to fight her for it. I've always kind of wanted to learn to ride, but the price of gas was a big kick towards it - another was that my license now reads Class AM, and I'm licensed to drive anything on the road (which I think is cool, for some reason).

I also play in a Ramones-esque punk rock band, am married and have an 11 month old daughter.

Was it Chacal or Rick that referred to carb tuning with pods as "entering the seventh circle of hell" DON'T DO IT, man, you have a beautiful nearly stock bike there. The aftermarket exhaust might actually require a bit of as-yet undiscovered carb tuning to be done, pods are asking for a whole new world of frustration.

Well, I'd been having a bit of a tough time finding a replacement stock-style air filter at a reasonable price (since solved), and thought that perhaps a permanent solution might not be a terrible idea. But I found a place that can get the stock-style filters for 10 bucks, so I'm thinking I'll stock up on a few of those.

    Thanks for the warnings!

In addition, I drive trucks & supervise truck drivers -- guess which is the tough part??
