I like the look of the stock exhause on my 82 seca 650 otherwise id have ditched it already.

What im wondering is if there is a way to make it slightly more free flowing and slightly louder without completely destroying it and loosing all the back pressure ?

If it comes down to it ill just spend the money on an aftermarket exhaust but like i said i like the look of the mufflers. If someone knows of a similar looking pair of aftermarket ones that will flow a little better and be louder please let me know.

    Thanks

use a drill with a 1/4" big and drill some holes in the baffles

    Hows the bike run? Good?
Want it to start running bad?
    Mess with the exhaust!

If you gut the Silencers and lose the Back Pressure ... you'll have to pull the Carbs and Re-Jet them!

You might get close the first time.
    Maybe.
    Maybe not.

You need to ask yourself an important question.
Is having louder pipes more important than performance?

Be sure to get the whole picture before you decide that Sound Effects are more important than Fine Tuning!

Thanks, but i guess ill just not bother with it at all...

And Rick thanks but i didn't wanna completely gut them. I was just wanting a slightly more aggressive sound, nothing extreme. Thats what i was saying

"What im wondering is if there is a way to make it slightly more free flowing and slightly louder without completely destroying it and loosing all the back pressure ?"

But i guess ill just leave it b since ive already got to rejet for the po putting pods on the bike.

    Invader,
Take off the stock mufflers and store them in plastic for future use. Then go on Ebay and get a pair of tapered Harley mufflers and slip them on. You'll see what I mean. They sound sweeeeeet.

To make them more aggressive, don't feed them, then smack them up a bit, and make them square off against smaller, weaker pipes, and when they win, feed them and praise them. Whenever they are mean, let them know that's what you want. Rinse and repeat.

Your pipes should be crazy aggressive in no time. :p

    LMFAO then ROTFL

There are quite a few options avalible!!

I have slip on jardines and I am hear from blocks away @ 5k rpms
You could pick up some aftermarket pipes and experiment<only YOU know your tastes>

Or if the originals are "disposable" you could completely remove the baffles.
Then pick up some muffler packing from a muffler shop or online
    Pack your pipes and roll.
Then you can add or remove packing as you see fit.

The stock pipes are worth their weight in gold if they are in good condition.
I think the aftermarket solution paid for by selling your "quiet" stockers.

I might try the tapered Harley mufflers. The mufflers on my project XJ are smashed and rusty... not salvageable by any means.

I've said this before, here goes.

Some engineer sat for hours with computer, slide rule and test results and figured how to make these bikes run the way they do.
Then come someone who thinks they know more than the experts.

But then I'm not no engineer and really dont know nothing anyway...

EDZACHARY!!! As soon as you start messing with exhaust or intake, you will upset the delicate performance balance designed in by those very same engineers. You will most likely DECREASE the overall performance of your machine in favor of a POSSIBLE SMALL gain somewhere in the power band. It all depends on whether you want to ride the bike, or spend literally hundreds of hours retuning it, only to come just close to how it was before. To me anyway, it's not worth it.

I had heard about this drill trick, but it doesn't seem like such a good idea now.

Do the MAC 4 into 1 exhaust systems create a need to re-jet and fine tune? I had those in mind in case mine went rotton.

    Thanks.
