How do I remove the electrical wire thats attached to the brake fluid reservior thet goes to the brake lever? I'm rebuilding the master cylinder and do I even need to remove it and do I need to remove the MS from the bike? I have an 83 XJ750K Maxim.

from the underside there is a tiny clip that you depress with a small screwdriver or similar & just pull the switch out.

Thanks for the reply. I looked under the underside and see the hole but it looks like a metal shaft is in there and I didn't see a clip. I tried putting a screwdriver in there but it didn't do anything and I didn't want to push too hard. Also, how do I get the rubber boot back on the MS plunger? Does it go on after the circlip? Does the circlip hold it down? How does it keep moistier out?

If you have a punch use that. Will fill the entire hole and engage the tab. If you're using a screwdriver push at the frontmost part of the hole (toward the wire), that's where the tab is.

The dust boot grabs a groove in the plunger. The circlip is underneath. If you pull the end closest to you off the plunger the boot will lift out. They really hold onto the plunger and there is a decent chance you'll tear it.

How does the new one go on? The only grove is at the top of the piston and then there's the the part of the shaft that looks a screw.

Sorry, I didn't specify. How does the new boot gon on? The plunger has a groove around the top and the boot has a small hole in the top. Do I stretch the boot to go into th groove? I don't remember if the original one came off that way. Also, what holds the bottom of the boot in to make it water tight? Does it fit into the same groove that the circlip fits into?
