Hmmm, aluminium wheels can be straightened but it will cost you.
    About $100.
Maybe this is not such a good idea.

I agree. If you don't already own this rim, it would not be such a good investment. Wheels for everything come up on eBay all the time. I'd keep looking.

Unless you really need to save that rim, I'd farm for a replacement.
The prang can be straightened (we do it all the time on aluminum bicycle rims) with a 2X4 and a gentle touch with a hammer. This is only to be approached if the bulge is slight, and yours looks like it is do-able. With the rim laying on a firm flat surface (not rocks or cobbles), place the 2X4 on the offending protuberance and gently whack (a bit of an oxymoron I know but I can't think of a better term right now) the 2X4 over the apex of the bulge. You may have to work your way up in intesity to find the right amount of force to get the bulge moving back to true (or close to it). Be sure to clamp (or sit) on the rim to keep it from jumping and bending the opposite side of the rim. In an ideal world, you would support the area to either side of the bulge but I don't know how you could do that without an expensive jig. I've done this repair to only one motorcycle rim with no problems so far (5 years and counting). Discression is the better part of valor here so go slowly and gently. If at any time you notice cracks, you are done. Do not mess with it. The repair, as Hound alluded to, will set you back about $100 but a replacement can be had for much less.

That rim is junk. The spec for run out is 2mm. It's way over that.

    Buy a good one.

thanks for all the great info.

id actually only be buying the rim for the rotors that are attached to it. i was hoping to just take it to the local shop and have them do the repair, and mount a new front tire to it so that i could start building my new front end. (i just got forks, calipers and mc from a seca 750 to upgrade to. i suppose i could just buy it and trash the rim. the price seems to be in the ballpark of what rotors are going for these days anyway.

are you SURE those are the right rotors? I thought the Maxims had the "swoopy" angles in the cutouts in the rotor, those look straight, like on my 550 Secas...not all Yamaha rotors (even of the same diameter) are the same, even though they may appear that way, the "offset" can be different from bike to bike. Be careful, a lot of eBay sellers do NOT know what they have...
