    found one in the local bike boneyard.

    thanks to those who replied.

    I'm looking for a top yoke, or as Yamaha calls it a Handle Crown. any year 650 Maxim uses the same part as far as I can tell.

    it's the top most piece of the front forks, the gauges, and the bars mount to it. It also has the top mount and pinch bolts for the fork tubes.

    here is a link to a page from the manual showing a drawing of the part.
