I have a 1979 yamaha enduro, it runs but I can not get it to Idel, I have cleaned the carb, it has 1 mikuni carb, it seems like it is pulling too much air, it runs when it is on full throttle Just need some help getting this thing running correctly, how should the carb be set thanks

Ok too add a few things will this bike run without a battery? Because it does need one. it starts right up and will run for about 10 secs and just dies, I'm new to the bike scene so any help would be great, Also it need a new carb to air box connecter, the bike only has 2400 miles on it, I plan on restoring it.

It is inadvisable to run the machine without a battery in the circuit as it will burn out your voltage regulation system if you are running an alternator. Old generators don't suffer with this problem. I'm not sure which you have on that enduro but I would be very cautious if you decide to continue running it without the battery in place until you have verified which system is used.

Thanks Well I got it running to where it will idel, but it needs to be on choke, and it runs real good.. I unhooked the regulator , it was getting real hot, so you were right there.. I have a battery comming in the morning.. it's really a fun little bike and fast. But I really need to figure out the carb

If this is a 2 cycle it may be the sparkplug. Since the oil is in the gas at low speed it fouls the plug. That's why dirt bikers tell you to keep the RPM's up when riding their bike.

You said it had no carb boot between the airbox.

I would say that could could be a big part of the trouble. I don't know much about the Mikuni carbs but I think they are CV (constant velosity) carbs like the Hitachi. And I've read somewhere that they need the boot to set up the air flowing into the carbs.

I'll try to find where I read it.

well I'm learning alot here but I pulled the head off of it and it has a cracked piston I'm surprised it was still running.. I pulled the piston out and it came apart... I rode this bike at 80mph with out a problem.. and all this time it had a busted piston.. I have a new motor ready to go in .. I just bought 4 enduro's today for 300 bucks..all of them are 79's
