well, I went to look at this 82 xj 750 maxim yesterday. 15k miles, and not a darn thing wrong with it. I had first dibs on the bike. other than two dings in the tank (one was good size), and a #1 exhaust pipe ding, the bike was perfect. and I mean perfect. I let the dings get the better of me and didn't put any deposit down as I went home to consult the wife. mistakes one and two. I had four bones on me to put down on the $600 he wanted for it. I talked with the 'financial genius' (yes, sense the sarcasm????) and called him back two hours later....it was gone. why o why did I even bother to ask the wife? isn't it easier to ask for forgiveness than for permission? btw, I'm the only one working right now...oh, I'm peeved. I had a hard time getting to sleep last night I was soooo wound up about it. In other news, I got the title to my maxim x that I bought for two bones. my dad has it now and is going to be getting a few things done to it. he is going to replace the handlebars, get it repainted and have the seat redone. I guess you cannot win them all....---sigh---

Things happen for a reason. Likely, you'll end up spending that 600 bucks on something more meaningful. Don't beat yourself up. There will be other screaming deals.

You have chosen wisely. I agree with Fraps, other deals will arise. I to have suffered similar remorse with checking but in the long run, you are better off including your significant other in those types of decisions. It will build a stronger relationship of trust between the two of you since you demonstrate your willingness to include her opinion in your decisions. Feel your pain bro but don't fret, your time will come.

 

Totally agree, another deal will happen. Try not to let this get to you, anyway it won't bring this particular bike back. Everything happens for a reason.

didn't even think of that. good point. I have come up with a way to do this where I don't need to 'consult' anyone. I am selling some old models on ebay and I know I'll pull several hundred from just two of them. next bike, I buy solo.

 

Gotta do the background work. I'm going to look at two bikes on Sunday. (One complete,one parts) Missus has already gven the thumbs up. Four hours of driving and hopefully more toys. :wink:

Plan ahead and plant the seed early with SWMBO as to why you really need another bike and she'll end up pushing you out the door to go buy it. 8)
