I just got a 50 dollar 1982 xj650 maxim. The only hitch is I have to finish assembly on it. It was my roommates parts bike that came with his when he bought it. It has 99% of the parts so It should be interesting to see how well it goes back together. The plans are to build it back to stock, then tear it back down partially and do some mods, like hardtail with custom seat and different bars and some paint. Im less worried about the fabrication after putting it back to stock and more about getting the engine back together and running.

    Welcome aboard,

You've found the right place for info on anything XJ.
Very good bunch of people here to help out with what ever your doing XJ wise.
I knew nothing when I found this forum except I wasn't going to pay the dealer any more to fix my ride.

Wow that's a nice "small" project you have there. But think of all the fun you will have doing it. Good luck and keep us posted.

Welcome, these guys are great help. If you get frustrated, take it out on those drums, not the bike!

Can you post a part# or link? I'm getting close to needing a new back tire and would love to have one ready and waiting.

BikeBandit rocks, by the way... I know it's the wrong forum but they really are an excellent first-class operation.

+1 for BikeBandit. I ordered Bridgestone Spitfires for my Maxim and I love them so far. BikeBandit got the front tire to me two days after my order and the rear came about three days after that. Seems like they drop ship from a variety of different warehouses so shipping times will vary.

Well the motor is out of the frame, now. I got that done today. Time to start tackling the timing chain and timing.
