From the land of cheese curds and cow farts.

I just bought a 1985 Yamaha Maxim 18500 miles, in excellent condition.
It has been sitting in a garage while the last three owners used it once
in a while when they were home from Service tours and College.
It does not like to idle very well, but is getting better with each mile.
(This bike sure likes to run around 6000 - 8000 RPM's)

It is listed as a 700cc, but I have been told that it has a 750cc motor in it.
Can anyone fill me in on the details with this?
Also... how/where would I check to find out the info on this bike?

All I have is the title - no owners manual or anything.

    Thanks.
    Ron.

You need to look at the steering head for the full serial number (and date of manufacture, which may or not correspond to the "year" it is titled as) and on the top of (I believe) the right side of the engine for the "abbreviated" serial number (model code and "serial") and see if they match, for starters. Write down both and post, that's a start.

look around on the very front of the motor, in the middle - the CC should be stamped on the head or valve body.. don't remember which. If it says 748cc, that's a "750".

If its a Maxim-X you can go here - www.maxim-x.com and cross reference the VIN with the year. Click on "notes" at the top and look for the comparison between 85/86. Lots of other good info there too (if its an X)

Welcome - please add your bike to the signature line so when you have questions folks can easily identify the year, type and mods.

A ton of good info on the site - enjoy...
